Project Classrooms (Phase 2) – In Progress

Building classrooms and hostel facilities:

In 2017, when Govinddham was registered with the state and central government, we started with 2 projects.

1. Build classrooms for the young kids in the community to impart free education to the local children and provide them a place to stay while they study at the Gurukul.
2. Build an animal shelter for abandoned cows and calves and provide a loving and safe environment for them to live freely.

To that end, this project is the extension of project 1 which was to build classrooms for day schooling. That project was completed and the school was operated until Covid made us close it down. This project is to restart the school and add the hostel and dining facilities for those students.

Planning the structure

Classrooms that were built in 2018-2019 will be used as classrooms for additional students. New hostel and dining facilities will be built away from the day classrooms. These will be dormitory style hostel with 4 student per dorm room. At present, the plan is to build 4 rooms in the hostel updstairs and kitchen and dining facilities at the ground level. Only boys will be accomodated in this phase. In future, plan is to build a separate girls hostel that would require a lot more planning for security concerns. The lower floor of the building will also include warden’s living space, an office to manage the day today operations of the school and the hostel.

We are in the process of creating a design document that will be shared here once finalized.

The plan would also include hiring full time teachers, cooks, cleaners, office staff etc. Full plan will be chared along with the cost estimates.

Current state of affairs

The structure is ready to be furnished and finished according to the plan. Material is being bought to fix the doors, lights and plumbing to the classrooms.
